The history of Teddy Bear
Teddy Bear stuffed toys have a long history and are often used to soothe children’s feelings of sadness. Some teddy bears have become expensive collectibles in recent years. The world’s first teddy bear museum was established in 1984 in Petersfield, Hampshire, England.
“Teddy bear” was originally a proper name, and only bears manufactured between 1903 and 1912 could be called teddy bears. But now, teddy bears have developed into almost all fuzzy teddy bears.
It was officially created in 1903 by the American creative toy company, but the teddy bear is best known as a teddy bear by the German company Steiff (although the Steiff bear was later included in the teddy bear series).
Today’s teddy bears, just like barbie dolls, are no longer the general concept of toys. Instead, they are endowed with various special commemorative meanings and play the role of inheriting a certain culture. Especially in Europe and America, a teddy bear can be regarded as a member of the family, or even accompany three generations of the family to grow up.
Teddy Bear is actually called Roosevelt Bear in American parlance. American President Theodore Roosevelt was named after Teddy Roosevelt because his nickname was teddy and he loved to hunt.
The teddy bear is said to have taken its name–Roosevelt Bear from Theodore Roosevelt hunt in Mississippi in 1902. Roosevelt refused to kill the captive Bear and criticized him as “unsportsmanlike”. Then a political cartoonist promptly published a cartoon of Teddy& Bear.
The first cartoon appeared the next day, November 6. A Washington post cartoon editor, Clifford k. Berryman, documented the incident in a front-page comic. Berryman painted the bear sitting on the ground, with Roosevelt holding a gun, with his back to the bear, and making the gesture of refusing to kill the prey. “Drawing the Line in Mississippi” is written at the bottom of the frame, linking hunting anecdotes to political debate.
